ARSENAL BOUNCE BACK FROM LIVERPOOL THRASHING

Arsenal made their worst start in the Premier League era earlier this season when they lost all their first three games without a single goal scored. They were beaten by newcomers Brentford (2-0 away from home), Chelsea (2-0 at home) and Manchester City (5-0 away from home with ten men) in those first three games and the situation attracted a lot of negative attention to manager Mikel Arteta.

Arteta and the Arsenal players were under the spotlight in the first month of the season, and they showed character to bounce back from those poor results to embark on a run of eight games without defeat in the Premier League. The Gunners won the most points in the division within those eight games with a record of six wins and two draws. The 20 points recorded from eight matches catapulted them from the bottom of the table and into the top five places on the Premier League table ahead of the Liverpool game on Saturday, November 20.

Arsenal were on a run of eight games without defeat in the league and ten games without defeat in all competitions ahead of the Liverpool game. At the end of proceedings, they were beaten convincingly by their hosts after conceding three goals in the second half to players like Diogo Jota, substitute Takumi Minamino and Mohamed Salah in addition to the first half strike from Senegalese player Sadio Mane. Arsenal were beaten 4-0 by Liverpool as their unbeaten run came to an end.

Arteta and his Arsenal players had to show some of the fighting spirit from the start of the season as they bounced back from the Liverpool trashing by beating bottom team Newcastle United 2-0 at home. After a frustrating first half, Arsenal found a way past the Newcastle United rearguard in the second half thanks to the smart finish from Bukayo Saka in the 56th minute before Brazilian attacker Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench for the injured Saka to score a second Arsenal goal and ensure that they returned to winning ways after the Liverpool game.
