Arsenal reportedly shifted their interest towards PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez

After having failed in their attempts to convince Jamie Vardy to join the club, Arsenal reportedly shifted their interest towards PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian international has been a surprise in the Premier League, but he has become one of the most wanted players in the last few months. Arsenal were thought to be heading the list of potential suitors. However, Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha has confirmed that the player has agreed to stay at Leicester after negotiations. This comes as a major blow for Arsenal, who have been repeatedly unable to sign big names in the summer.

Mahrez would have been a significant addition to the Arsenal team especially with rumours about Theo Walcott’s future. The England international has been linked with a move away from the Emirates stadium after failing to secure a first-team spot in the last decade. Even though the failure to sign Mahrez might come as a blow, there have been those who potentially doubted his impact at the Emirates. Incredibly, one of those doubters included former Arsenal defender Lauren who claimed that Arsenal do not need another winger likeMahrez. He feels that Arsenal already have a number of players capable of playing in this position like Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Jack Wilshere.

“He is very happy with Leicester and of course it has been a fantastic season. They will play in the Champions League next year as well so he would be happy to stay.Of course there is a possibility he will leave. When you have been playing the way Riyad has this season, it is bound to attract attention,” said Leicester City ownerSrivaddhanaprabha. “They have Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott. Arsenal don’t need Mahrez,” said Lauren.
